Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

At FinanceLives (accessible from financelives.com), one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by FinanceLives and how we use it.

2. Data We Collect and How We Use It

FinanceLives is designed as a client-side calculator, comparison utility, and educational platform. We do not collect, store, or transmit any financial information, numbers, incomes, asset allocations, investment values, insurance premiums, quiz answers, game progress, or any data that you enter into our calculators, comparison tools, or Daily Finance Challenge games. All calculations, comparisons, and game state are executed and stored locally within your web browser using JavaScript and LocalStorage. We do not have any databases storing your input fields, comparison results, quiz scores, or daily challenge streaks.

This applies to all features on our platform, including:

  • Country-specific financial calculators (tax, mortgage, loan, investment, retirement, savings)
  • Side-by-side comparison tools (investment vehicles, tax regimes, insurance plans, retirement accounts, mortgage types)
  • Daily Finance Challenge (FinWord puzzles, finance quizzes, daily tips, historical facts, streaks, and statistics)
  • Financial glossary searches and term definitions
  • Blog articles and educational content
  • Interactive widgets and planning projections

Important: While we do not collect personal data ourselves, third-party advertising partners (including Google AdSense) may use cookies and similar technologies to serve personalized advertisements when you visit our site. For details on how Google uses your data, please refer to Sections 3 and 4 below. You can control your cookie preferences through our cookie consent banner, which appears on your first visit and can be accessed at any time via the "Cookie Preferences" link in our footer.

3. Cookies and Web Beacons

Like many websites, FinanceLives uses cookies and similar technologies. Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser. They are used to remember your preferences, understand how you interact with our site, and — with your consent — to deliver relevant advertisements.

When you first visit FinanceLives, a cookie consent banner asks you to accept or decline cookies. You can change your preference at any time by clicking the "Cookie Preferences" link in our footer. We also use Google Consent Mode v2 to communicate your consent choices to Google for advertising and analytics purposes.

You may also disable cookies through your individual browser settings. For more information about cookies and how to manage them, visit AllAboutCookies.org or your browser's help documentation.

4. Third-Party Advertising & Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on FinanceLives. Google AdSense is an advertising service provided by Google LLC. With your consent (managed through our cookie consent banner), Google may use cookies and web beacons to collect information about your browsing activities in order to serve personalized advertisements. If you decline consent, we serve only non-personalized ads, which still require cookies for fraud prevention and frequency capping.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to our website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to our sites and/or other sites on the Internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting the following links:

For more information about how Google uses data when you use our site, please visit Google's Privacy & Terms.

5. Google DoubleClick DART Cookie

Google uses DART cookies to serve ads to our site visitors based upon their visit to FinanceLives and other sites on the internet. The DART cookie enables Google to serve personalized ads based on your browsing behavior across multiple websites.

You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google Ad and Content Network Privacy Policy.

6. LocalStorage Usage

We use browser LocalStorage to enhance your user experience by storing minimal preference data and game progress:

  • Country Preference: We store your preferred country selection (e.g., "United States", "United Kingdom", "India") so that when you revisit the site, we automatically show you the correct country-specific calculators and comparison tools.
  • Calculator State (Optional): Some calculators may temporarily cache your input values in LocalStorage to allow you to resume where you left off if you browse away and return to the same calculator.
  • Daily Finance Challenge Progress: Your Daily Finance Challenge game states, streaks, statistics, quiz scores, FinWord completion status, and practice mode history are stored locally in your browser's LocalStorage. This allows you to track your progress and maintain your streaks across sessions. This data never leaves your device.
  • Theme & Display Preferences: Settings like high contrast mode for FinWord and other accessibility preferences are stored locally.

This data stays entirely on your device and is never sent to our servers. You can clear this data at any time through your browser's settings (clearing site data or LocalStorage). Note that clearing LocalStorage will reset your Daily Finance Challenge streaks and statistics.

7. GDPR and CCPA Data Protection Rights

We want to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Because we do not collect any personal identifier details (like names, emails, or financial balances) during calculator usage, comparison tool usage, glossary searches, blog reading, or Daily Finance Challenge gameplay, there is no personal data for you to request access to or ask us to delete. All game progress and statistics are stored locally on your device and can be cleared by you at any time through your browser settings. If you fill out our contact form, we collect only your email and message to respond to your request, and you may contact us at any time to purge this correspondence.
